Hi, I'm Gail. 

I started my career like many comms people - on the front line.

Writing messages, sending press releases, running campaigns, and firefighting the symptoms of deeper problems.


Again and again, I saw the same thing.
Leaders asked for amends to reports, sharper slides, tighter emails, and stronger announcements.

But the more I worked, the more I realised: the messages weren’t the problem.


The real issues were human. Misalignment. Broken trust. People talking past each other. A lack of baseline skills in how to connect, listen, and read the room.

The pandemic only intensified this. In hybrid workplaces, I watched small slights escalate into big blow-ups because people had forgotten how to “human” at work.

​I saw decisions stall because leaders didn’t cascade information — or because people simply didn’t agree with them. I saw trust fracture because no one took the time to connect before they communicated.

​Over time, my work moved beyond polishing messages. I went upstream — asking why projects stalled, why leaders were misaligned, why information wasn’t flowing. What I found is what I work with today. 

THREE LAYERS OF COMMUNICATION

Communication exists at three levels - tactical, strategic, and systemic.

  • Tactical is the day-to-day: the messages, channels, and outputs.
  • Strategic is the planning: aligning communication to goals, audiences, and change.
  • Systemic is deeper. It’s the wiring that runs through organisations, shaping how meaning is made, how alignment happens, and how trust is built.

Most organisations stay stuck at the tactical or strategic level.

But the real breakthroughs come when you deal with communication as systemic. It’s the canary in the mine - the place where problems show up first, and the place where rewiring them creates the biggest and longest-lasting impact.

HOW I WORK

Today, I work across all three layers.

I’m an advocate and massive evangelist for systemic communication — mostly because I’ve seen how rewiring the system unlocks alignment, trust, and long-term impact.

But I also know that for many organisations, before we can open that conversation and move into the necessary periods of alignment and sensemaking — and ultimately coordinated action — we need to get the tangible elements right.


That might mean sharpening the messages, clarifying the narrative, or fixing the flow of information.

Those tactical and strategic wins matter. They create the space for deeper systemic change.

WHY REWIRED WORK EXISTS 

I created Rewired Work to help leaders stop treating communication as a tactical output and start recognising it as the systemic, strategic, and connective force that makes everything else work.

Through advisory, reviews, and enabling interventions, I help organisations:
